Emily Cummins: Britain’s Youngest Sustainable Inventor

Emily Cummins is a 21 year old ethical inventor and entrepreneur studying Management and Sustainability at Leeds University. Her latest invention is an environmentally friendly fridge, which runs without using electricity. Emily saw the problems that society faces – a reliance on fossil fuels and the dangers of global warming – and chose to create an everyday product that ran on sustainable energy. When Emily decided on a refrigerator she studied the existing technology and took the cooling process ‘back to basics’.

Emily saw the problems that society faces – a reliance on fossil fuels and the dangers of global warming – and chose to create an everyday product that ran on sustainable energy. When Emily decided on a refrigerator she studied the existing technology and took the cooling process ‘back to basics’.

Emily developed this refrigerator during her self-funded gap year in Africa, where she hopes it will also make a massive contribution to improving the quality of people’s lives. Most recently Emily was named Technology Woman of the Future, the British Female Innovator of the Year for 2007 and Cosmopolitans Ultimate Save-the-Planet Pioneer at their women of the year awards in 2008.
