Spyros Pyrgiotis, 23, is the one of the youngest person ever to be offered a place on a prestigious MBA course at Kingston University, London, which means he has to fund his £17,000 course fees before the course starts in September 2009.
Mr Pyrgiotis turned to the Internet and created his website, www.thetextpage.com – a page full of text which links to advertisers websites.
Pyrgiotis, who was rejected for numerous loans for his study, explains his reasons behind the unique idea, “I thought I would come up with a new business idea to make money – after all I have signed up to a business course. I came up with TheTextPage.com after I spotted a gap in the market for pay per character online advertising.”
Each character costs less than £1.50 ($2) and he has already sold $11,700+ of advertising, Mr Pyrgiotis confirms, “You only need to buy enough characters to provide a link to your website so it’s a cheap way for businesses to advertise.”
The money-spinning venture has attracted BBC News online as well as the interest of internet bloggers and has even been discussed on numerous radio stations including BBC Radio Wales.
As Spyros confirms on his blog how Facebook has been a great benefit to his website, “almost all the promotion is just through Facebook. It has helped me a lot in making this page known.” It seems he has a strong following as a group on Facebook has been set up, The Text Page, with almost 1,400 members.
