A teenager fulfilled his lifetime ambition to become a train driver at the tender age of 18.
London Underground employee, Seth Anderson-Crook, is now the youngest train driver to join the fleet and will be working on the District Line.
The teenager who lives in South Ealing and who grew up playing with train sets, said he was ‘over the moon’ after applying for the LU’S apprenticeship scheme and getting the job.
He Said: “It was a real eye opener working in various operational roles and a whole new world was revealed; you get an amazing insight into all the hard work that goes into making the Tube run all day, every day.
“My first shift was extremely nerve–racking but it went well without a hitch and the job is challenging and rewarding.”
Seth, a former pupil of Elthorne Park School in Hanwell, had secured a place to study for his A-Levels but applied for the apprenticeship scheme.
He was one of 15 out of a total of 1300 young people who were offered jobs following numeracy and literacy tests, group role play and interviews.
But Seth had to wait until he was 18 to complete his on-the-track training and since becoming a train driver, he said he feels ‘right at home’.
